Capture The Highest Resolution That Your Camera Offers
Don't scrimp on resolution to save a few megabytes.

By Sue Chastain, About.com

Just as people tend to use too much compression to conserve storage space, many people will capture less than the camera's maximum image size for the same reason. But think about this... photographs document your personal history. Your digital photos could be the only document of your life that is passed on to the generations that follow you. Don't you want to preserve that history with as much detail as your equipment is capable of producing?

Digital images can always be scaled down and compressed for other purposes later. But data that is never captured or knowingly tossed away can never be reclaimed. If you're shooting at less than full resolution in order to have room for more pictures, consider investing in additional memory cards for your camera or a portable storage solution so you can capture the full resolution that your camera offers.

It may not seem so important now, but the future generations wishing to remember you and preserve your history will appreciate it long after you're gone.
