Previously I posted the steps for applying a dotted line to a path using the Artistic Media tool. This is an alternate method using the Blend tool.
Time Required: Easy
Here's How:
- In an empty spot on the workspace, create your dot.
- Duplicate the dot. You can do this by using the right mouse button to drag the dot to another location. When you release the mouse a menu will pop up with a "copy here" option.
- Select the Interactive Blend tool and drag from one dot to the other to create a series of dots.
- Create the shape or line that you want to apply the dots to.
- Open the Blend docker by going to Window > Dockers > Blend.
- Click on the path button in the Blend docker. Hint: Looks like a curvy line with an arrow pointing to it.
- Choose New Path when the popup menu appears.
- Your cursor will change to a curvy arrow. Click on the shape or line you created in step 4.
- In the Blend docker, check the box that says "Blend along full path" and click Apply. The dots conform to the path.
- Now you can change the outline of the shape to no line.
- In the blend docker, you can change the number of steps to add or remove dots.
Tips:
- When making adjustments in the blend docker, you must have the blend group selected. Hint: Use the object manager docker if you have trouble selecting the blend group.
- You can change the size or color of the start and end dots and the blend will update itself automatically. Hint: Use start/end buttons in the blend docker to easily find the start and end objects.
- Experiment with blend acceleration panel in the blend docker.
- Thanks to Rosemary Muntus of Suffolk, UK for suggesting this method.
