CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 Review

Today Corel announced that CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 is now shipping worldwide. I've updated my review for the new version, maintaining its 5-star rating from the previous version.
The CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 is a value leader, providing capable, professional tools for just about any graphics task. The Suite includes CorelDRAW for vector-based drawing and page layout, PHOTO-PAINT for image editing and photo retouching, and several supporting utilities. While Graphics Suite X3 was a significant upgrade, going to X4 from X3 is a more evolutionary step and users will have to decide if the (primarily page layout oriented) new features will impact their workflow significantly. For users of version 12 and earlier, upgrading to X4 is highly recommended.

Corel took their eye off the ball many years ago and illustrator took it from there and its been that way ever since.Anybody whos put the time and effort into learning illustrator can never be satisfied with the rather amateurish corel draw.No doubt that some features are pretty handy but on the whole doesnt match up to illustrator.Actually its frustrating that corel hasnt matched the features of illustrator after all these years.Wonder if its that difficult to code???

Manu, Very ling time ago when Corel was at version 3 or 4, I totally agree it looked and worked quite poorly compared to illustrator. But since about version 11 of Corel I sinverely beloeve its not at all the case. I have been using Corel for years seeing it eveove through the different version and it is way much more productive that illustrator.

I am extremely frustrated by how Illustrator at such and advanced stage in its life is still so poor designed when it comes to productivity.

I used both and must say that illustrtator is really EXTREMELY frustrating in some cases.

A few simple tests:
In how many clicks can you underline a text in illustrator compared to Corel or just put bullets in a list?

When corel introduced the property bar, illustrator took I think 2 years or so to realise it was helpful tool. And evn now thatof illustrator is so poorly designed.

How do you add more pages in illustrator in a single file…you cant!

Working with vectors: In how many clicks do you add node or vector in a line in corel? just double click on the place you want to add it on the line and you can immidiately manipulate it.. In illustrator you must either type “+” or look for th etool in the tool bar. That click back on “v” to start modifying it.

The list is so long. And this is just for the simple things. Now imagine the more demanding tasks. Distort, Envelope, Sheer….

I wonder why people still continue using illustrator when I see its weaknesses.

Amazingly hard to get “real” critical reviews from “professional” software reviewers these days. X3 is a step down for me from V9. Poor command structure, limited customization, bugs, removed features and virtually zero help from numerous emails sent to Corel. I’m converting all my files back to V9 and buying Adobe later this year. Will NOT buy Corel products again.

I`m new to corel, but this website has left me feeling a little less confused about this application
