(1) Kim says:

How long can you use this program before your trial is over? Is this a “time is up” program?

Or is this a program that you can keep using for free, like say an entire year? Or do you have to purchase?

I am not good with computers… or understanding the rules of how all these programs/things work…

(2) Sue Chastain says:

Adobe Photoshop Album is free forever. You do have to register by filling out a form to get a registration code but it is free and will work as long as you want to use it. It may have little teasers for Adobe Photoshop Elements in it.

what advantages does this program have over the regular Picture Viewer that I already have from My Pictures.

(4) Sue Chastain says:

Sharon: Windows Picture Viewer doesn’t offer all the features noted in my mini-review of Photoshop Album. It does tagging, quick touch-ups, and so on.

Is there a limit to how many photos Adobe Photo Shop Album Starter can contain? Also does any photo program create a text type list with index of the photos contained in the program?? Thanks.

Kathiravelu: It is not *my* software. I only write about it. You need to contact the developer, Adobe.

(13) Caroline Ducosin says:

Adobe says my time has expired for Photoshop Album Starter Edtion 3.0; I received my unlock code after registering again & again but nothing happens. I have photos in 3.0; if I register & download Adobe Photoshop Album 3.2, will I lose my photos?

August 9, 2008 at 2:33 pm
(14) Sue Chastain says:

No Adobe program will ever delete your personal photos. Upgrading to 3.2 from 3.0 should convert your old catalog to the new version and you can pick up right where you left off.

(18) Brenda says:

I need to recover more than 13k pictures (tags ect.) that I previously had in PS Album 2.0 from my old computer. When I tried to install the software in the new computer w Vista, surprise! it doesn’t support it. Now, I not only want to recover the pictures that I have in an external drive, but with all the tags ect. built in PS Album. That is the main reason I bought the program-to be able to recover all that when catastrophe strikes. I went to Adobe website, but can find a practical answer, and I am waiting from Customer Service. Which are my options?
Thanks!

(19) Sue Chastain says:

Brenda: You need Photoshop Album SE 3.2 to be compatible with Windows Vista. It is still free. You can download here: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=3616

(20) Gail says:

Adobe Photoshop 3.0 probably is a great programme but something isn’t right when you go to register and they continually will send you that magic unlock code that unlocks nothing and you cannot Register. There for the programme is time up. Nice little scam I suppose.Silly me I used to think Adobe was legit but I will get another photo programme that actually does allow you to Register and works beautifully.I would not go through this garbage with Adobe photoshop so called Register ever again.I tried so many times to Register. It does not allow it.There are photo programmes that actually mean what they say and if it means buying and not this so called free trial and Register, then so be it.I don’t need the aggravation.

November 1, 2008 at 4:25 pm
(21) Sue Chastain says:

Gail: I would suggest you make sure you have the latest version, which I believe is 3.2 now.

(22) Graham says:

People seem to have a lot of trouble with the ‘unlock’ codes on the 3.+ software. I am pretty sure that in the earlier 2.0 version you had to type the unlock code in the box and not copy and paste. I had some other software like that but cannot recall what it is.
For what it’s worth, I think the earlier 2.0 SE is much more user-friendly. Emailing and re-sizing pics is easy. I’ve yet to find the Contact Book on the later 3.+ version(s). The software just seems to attempt to zoom-off a pic without any query as to whom it’s going to: sad, or what? The later software is c**p, to be honest: cleaning-off your pics off of your digicam immediately after upload does not impress ‘moi’in the least. If you then cannot find them on your PC you’re left with nothing: a bit like getting divorced from the missus . . .
Luckily, I keep all my setup.exe progs on removable disc and have re-installed the old 2.0SE and trashed the 3.2SE. It’s difficult to locate the old 2.0SE setup file of late on the web, if at all.
Cheers for now.

(24) Lorraine says:

I had the same problem with the unlock code. I registered but I never got the code. I was able to get the code when I called their customer service dept. at:

800-833-6687
7 days a week
6am-8pm(Pacific time)

I was then able to unlock the program and work with it. A couple of days later I finally received the unlock code in my e-mail. I really like the program, I originally purchased the 2.o version. I was disappointed when I found it would not work on Vista. I just found out that the 3.2 was compatible with Vista and downloaded it. It just seems that the 2.0 had better resolution to the pictures.

(25) Scott says:

I have registered, over and over. It sends me an unlock code, but it does not unlock it. It told me it will no longer ask for an unlock code so I better register. I registered, yet AGAIN and then it closed. Now it won’t let me in!!! I hate Adobe and think the software is over priced and substandard.

(26) Mark says:

Hi, hope you can help. A friend brought me their XP computer today to try to retrieve their photos, after their computer failed. All their photos of their 3 young children just disappeared if I cant retrieve them.

I can access the hard disk as a slave (data) device but cannot boot from it.

They used Adobe Photoshop Album Starter Edition to download and store camera photos (from a ‘Tesco Premier’ camera whatever that is, and a ‘Samsung’ mobile phone) and also from scans (which I think from looking on their hard drive is an HP device), but I cannot find the images on their hard drive.

Q1. Where does APASE store the images?

I ran searches for .jpg and another 10 or so file extensions, but there’s nothing obvious.

Q2. What file type (extension) does APASE use? (does it use a special proprietary one, or store the data in a database, or what else)?

A swift answer would be appreciated, as I’m running out of time and ideas – the user doesnt understand computers, got the software on CD (which theyve lost) with their camera, and thats all they knew apart from ‘the pictures are in the abode’.

I didnt know of the existence of this particular software product, until now.

I downloaded a copy to look at, and find it way too ‘automatic’ to see what it’s doing without investing (and perhaps wasting) a lot of time.

Q3: How can I tell if they used what looks to me like an online backup service? (accessed by pressing a button at top right of the Home Page of the version 3.2 I downloaded, and which I am too wary to press!) And if so how to access it?

Help please :) )

(27) Sue Chastain says:

Mark: Your questions would be better addressed in the discussion forum. Please go there if you need more help: http://forums.about.com/ab-graphicssoft/

Photoshop Album Starter Edition does not store any image files. it only creates a catalog (database) of the image files which remain in their original format on disk. This confuses a lot of people who assume the pictures are stored in the photo management software so then they delete the files from disk. See http://graphicssoft.about.com/b/2008/10/17/why-would-anyone-delete-all-their-pictures.htm This may have been what happened with your friend.

Please post in the forum to continue this discussion.

(30) LORNA BROWN says:

I inadvertently ended up with Photoshop Starter as the default package to download photos into. My trial expired and I registered, received an unlock code – but that doesn’t work and I have hundreds of photos in there – can anyone offer advice?

June 15, 2009 at 3:15 pm
(31) Sue Chastain says:

Lorna: You can either follow the advice in the article linked at the top of this post to try to get it registered, contact Adobe if that doesn’t work, or simply switch to another program for managing your photos. Your photos are still files on your computer and you are not locked into using Album for managing them. Here are my top picks of software you might like to try as a replacement for Album–Top Digital Photo Software for Family Photos

(32) Joann says:

We recently installed a new computer and now cannot access my Adobe Photoshop Album. Is there someway I can access this through our new computer from an Adobe website or do I have to copy files from the old system? Thanks for response!

June 26, 2009 at 10:21 pm
(33) Sue Chastain says:

@Joann: Album uses the same type of catalog as Photoshop Elements, so this article should answer your question–http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/pselements/f/transfercatalog.htm
