Lots of people hear that Photoshop is the best, the industry standard, and they assume they need it. But most people really don't. Compare the features of Photoshop and Photoshop Elements and decide if the extra power is really worth $500 to you. Chances are, the mid-level Photoshop Elements will be more than enough for you. I've just updated this article to reflect the changes in the most recent versions of both programs. Of course, there are many other options if Adobe's offerings don't appeal to you.
