Portable Photo Tagging: IMSI Announces HiJaak PhoTags

Friday October 24, 2003
There has been a lot of talk in the forum lately about tagging digital photos with keywords and descriptions and the problems of using a tagging scheme that is not portable. Users don't want to be tied into a single image management program, but there is not yet a tagging standard where image descriptions can be embedded in a file and interpreted by any photo editing or image management software. What users seem to want is something similar to ID3 tags in MP3 files, but for JPEGs.

Today, IMSI has announced a new photo editing package, which they claim, "...allows for the addition of text and graphics into the photo while maintaining the integrity of the original .JPG image and requires no special viewer or proprietary file format." Is this the breakthrough we've all been waiting for? I'm not sure, but I certainly aim to find out. Continue reading for the press release.

Patent-Pending Active Caption Technology Puts the Message in the Photo While Maintaining Integrity of Original Photograph

IMSI, a leading developer of visual content, design, and graphics software, today announced the release of HiJaak PhoTags. This powerful and versatile photo-editing package allows users to quickly and easily add intelligent captions, highlight details or insert dates and shapes into digital photos. Exclusive patent-pending "Active Caption" technology allows for the addition of text and graphics into the photo while maintaining the integrity of the original .JPG image and requires no special viewer or proprietary file format.

The Active Captions text, shapes, borders and frames are inserted on virtual layers, which makes editing, removing or hiding them easy. Photos can be printed with or without any combination of Active Caption additions for maximum versatility. Enhancements can be turned off; yet the photos will retain the properties which can then be turned on again with a click of the mouse. Searching photos by Active Captions in the application or from Windows simplifies photo management and organization.

With a minimal learning curve and no photo editing experience required, HiJaak PhoTags makes editing, enhancing and sharing photographs quick and easy. Intuitive Wizards help in the creation of professional looking albums, calendars and slideshows. Powerful features include:

Active Captions(TM) Technology

  • Add text comments to specific areas of the photo
  • Design & format text & highlights in any font, size or color
  • Easily highlight specific details of a photo
  • Position and change captions by simple drag-and-drop
  • Add borders and frames
  • Easily edit, remove or hide all captions, arrows and highlights on a "virtual layer"
  • Batch process captions, dates, comments, categories and photos that can then be viewed or searched
Powerful Photo Tools
  • Create professional-looking photo calendars, slide shows and photo albums
  • Find and organize images by searching captions, categories, dates and comments by keywords
  • Easily fix and enhance photos
  • Print albums with or without caption, shapes, or frames
  • Share photos via email, web, or download to Pocket PC(TM)
  • Burn photo albums directly to CD from the application

HiJaak PhoTags is currently available from IMSI for MSRP of US$39.99.
