Henk Nieborg - Pixel Artist

Tuesday August 26, 2003
I posted about this artist's site last night thinking some of the animation was done with animated GIFs. Then this morning I woke up thinking about it. It can't be animated GIF--I forgot I had animation disabled in my browser! I also have Flash disabled. I imagine the animation must be done with Dynamic HTML or JavaScript. Anyway, check it out to see some fantastic pixel art and animation. Go there: The Work of Henk Nieborg - Pixel Department [via CogWorks]
New: Web Design/HTML Guide Jennifer Kyrnin explains how it's done.

My original post:
Several weeks ago I pointed out some 3D stereo images made with animated GIF. This is even better. I didn't think it was a GIF at first-- the depth is so vivid--but if you study it you can figure out how it works. It's four layers. The foreground and background are static, and the middle two layers are moving, carousel style, at different speeds to give the illusion of dimension. Click back to the home page to see more pixel graphics from this Dutch graphic artist who has worked on Harry Potter 2 for Gameboy and many other games. There are also some old C64 pixel drawings (circa 1985 - 1987) if you click through all the pages of his bio.
