If you're having problems getting your monitor to display color properly, give Monitor Calibration Wizard a try. You have nothing to lose, it's free! Here is the description from the Web site:
Monitor Calibration Wizard is an easy-to-use tool for calibrating the colors displayed by your monitor. Most monitors have flaws, they may be too dark, too bright, or they may have a color tint like green or blue. All these problems can be easily fixed through Monitor Calibration Wizard.
I tried it and the wizard portion that walks you through the process of creating a profile is very straightforward. What to do once you've got one is a little unclear, however. This version doesn't support multiple monitors, but version 2.0 is in development and multiple monitor support is one of the planned improvements. I don't advise messing with things if you're happy with your current color display, though.

Here's a tip: use the arrow keys on your keyboard while making adjustments in the wizard for more precision.

I tried to download this and my virus software said it was a virus and listed it as a “trojan-other”. I wanted to know if anyone had any problems with it or if it is just a quirk with my virus software.

It is not your av that is quirking, it is a crappy file with a virus inside, I tried from several site, allways the same, there is nothing good about that file, it seems to be a dos executable and I have no idea what it does, but I would not trust it for a second.

It’s very bad practice for a company to supply software in the form of an ‘exe’ file anyway, because when you double-click to install it, any virus or trojan within will immediately spring in to action and do it’s nasty work.

Any half-decent company supplies software as a zip-file so you can unzip and examine it first without executing anything till you’re sure it’s clean.

Don’t touch this software!

You know I used to come to this site thinking I’d find reliable decent help, you really should check a program out thoroughly before you recommend it.

There is no virus, and distributing executables is standard practice.

The software works pretty well, but it’d be nice to have multiple monitor support.

I am the Owner/ITT Tech and Support agent for J’s PC Repair. One of my specialties is Virus/Malware Removal and Internet/Computer/Data Security.

I am not exactly sure what is going on with this program but here is what I have found so far.

I downloaded this program from 3 different sites — all legit.

I installed it and nothing was picked up by Trend Micro Internet Security Pro.

I have run it and used it and still, nothing was picked up.

I scanned the files in the install directory as well as in the Documents & Setting\Programs list and the registry.
Again — nothing.

Out of curiosity, I clicked again on the “mcw10.exe” install file and all it did was show a fast progress bar and then, Trend Micro picked up an “Unknown” Virus in an unknown location as follows:

C:\DOCUMENT~1\%USER%~1\LOCAL~1\J789B….\ae9870

I have allowed my AV to “Trust” the folder or file and it says it cannot be restored because it is either corrupt or a file by the same name already exists in that location.

I turned off my AV and double clicked the “mcw10.exe” again and this time, it went through the uninstallation/installation with no problems.

SUMMARY — this file is NOT a virus and does not execute any viral or malware content while being run.
This file is picked up as a virus when it has already been installed but will run normally and will uninstall and reinstall as long as no AV is allowed to intercept the Temp Installer created by the program.

It is my opinion that this software is no threat and contains NO virus/malware considered harmful to data or the OS environment.

I will attempt to contact the makers of this program and alert them of the issue.

Upon further testing:

Malwarebytes’ Anti-malware, SUPERAntiSpyware, F-Secure Blacklight, and at least one other Rootkit Scanner have NOT picked up anything in this file.

Trend’s HiJack This has found no instance of malware and the process is normal under ProcessExplorer.

Under D-Task Manager, the process is the same as under ProcessExplorer and also shows ZERO (0) CPU Usage and only 5280K (5.15MB) RAM use.

There are no threatening background processes running from this program and there are no DOS executable files running (that I can see) in any of my diagnostic programs.
